Bank Robbery At Scotiabank Spanish Lookout
posted (October 4, 2017)
There was an armed robbery at the Scotiabank Branch in Spanish Lookout today - the first one since that deadly heist in March of 2010.

Fortunately, this time around, no bank employees, security guards, or customers were hurt, but the 3 armed robbers managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The incident actually started in Belmopan this morning, where 3 Hispanic men approached 62 year-old taxi driver Oscar Cordon, who works the Belmopan terminal circuit. Police say that the men approached him to do a taxi run but he refused. That's when the men forced him to take them, and at some point, they threw him into the car trunk.

They then drove to an area near the Buena Vista Junction, which just outside of Spanish Lookout.

Once there, the men tied him up, and then shot him to the left hand, and left him there.

The trio of outlaws then whipped off in his car and went to this Scotia Bank Branch, which is right next door to the Police Substation in this community.

A press release from Scotia Bank says that at about 9:20 a.m., three armed men entered their bank. Police say that they were wearing masks, and it appears that they were armed with a shotgun and other small arms.

They then held up the assistant manager and made off with an undetermined amount of money. Hours later, the cops found the taxi-man's stolen car near the Buena Vista Junction.

Police refused any comments to the press, but the Bank was a bit more forthcoming.

Their press release says, "We are thankful there have been no reports of any injuries to our employees nor customers in today's incident and affirm the Bank's strict compliance with best practices of security standards across the organization. We are now taking all steps necessary to quickly restore banking services to our customers."

As we told you, there was an armed robbery at that same bank 7 and a half years ago. In that incident, the on-duty security guard, Steven Lopez was shot and killed by one of the 5 armed robbers. 2 customers were injured, and another was relieved of his cash. In that case, the armed robbers made off with $300,000 from the branch's vault.
