As many as 15 types were placed on the road and set on fire - in an attempt to obstruct the heavy rush of early morning traffic from northern Belize into the city.

But while it did inconvenience a few drivers who were on the road very early - the tyre fire didn't have much of an effect.

That's because the Fire Department came and put it out quickly, and swept the debris off the road. The regular flow of traffic was restored within an hour, meaning that traffic was moving as normal by 6:00 AM.

So who did it and why? Well COLA - one activist group who has been linked to tyre fires in the past - disclaimed any knowledge. No one has claimed responsibility and police have not detained anyone.
