Ministry Says Teachers at Claver College Making Baseless Demands
posted (October 4, 2017)
Yesterday we told you about the complaints from the teachers at Claver College Extension in Punta Gorda. According to them, the ministry did not give them their usual stipend. Well, today the Minister of Education Patrick Faber told us the teachers are going about this all wrong.

Today Faber explained that the Education Ministry has no obligation to afford them any financial stipend because they are a separate institution - they are not a grant aided school.

This stipend came about because the college reached out to the ministry, asking for help and the ministry assisted them as a good will gesture from the government.

Now, that arrangement expired at the end of the school year in June so the ministry did not pay out the funds. Faber says there needs to be a discussion and agreement before any monies are given. Faber says the director has sent in an application to renew that stipend arrangement and it will be considered as was done in the past.
