No Good News For Standby Soldiers
posted (October 19, 2017)
Acting Commander Ortega was the one who had to deal with the BDF standby's who refused to move from in front of the Price Barracks last Wednesday. Today we asked Saldivar for a comment on this issue and he reiterated Ortega's position.

Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
"Indeed there was no need for them to be waiting outside there, because there was a standby list that had already been prepared. We know that the facility can only take on 100 recruits and so the hope for these potential recruits was that somebody would drop out. But whenever that would occur, we would simply refer to the standby list and so standing outside the gate of the BDF did not improve your chance of getting in and for that reason the BDF had ask them to leave."

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"So from now on that's standard procedure, there is no reason to be out there. They will call you if you're on the standby list?"

Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security
"Yes, that is certainly how we would prefer for it to be done."

As you heard Ortega say, those men who camped outside will not be called in for training.
