New House Handed Over
posted (October 19, 2017)
This afternoon one of Jenny Pinelo's dreams came through. She finally got her own house. She was living with her mom but always wanted to have a place that she could call hers. After doing some research she found out about the Hand in Hand Ministry in Belize who along with The Heritage Bank helped bring her dream to life. We spoke to an overjoyed Pinelo this afternoon at the handover.

Jenny Pinello, Recipient of Home
"I was sitting with my mom and my sister and we were just talking and she told me to build a house to the back instead of just renting or being with my sister so I went several places and suddenly she told me that the hand in hand is for families for moms like me to assist us in getting a home."

"I went there just to ask about it and I came back a week after that and decided I am going to do it. I went and I met Ms. Grace, she gave me a paper to apply for it. I went back home to my mom and she just gave me the land paper and she told me ok then you will do it."

"How much is this. Having your own house going to improve your life?"

Jenny Pinello, Recipient of Home
"A whole lot. Well because of my kids. Most of all because of my kids and at the end of the day, it is ours."

Sahar Vasquez
"What is your role in the building of this house?"

Stacy Soberanis, Human Resources Manager at Heritage Bank
"Our employees at Heritage bank started off the year thinking about some kind of community service that we could do for a deserving member of our society."

"We have learned so much. It was certainly brand new for us, banking is our career and actually putting in the physical labor to build this house has been so wonderful that so many of us have said we would love to do something of this sort again."

The house cost a total of 20,000 to build.
