It is being hosted in Belize tomorrow, and representatives from Governments all across the Caribbean will be coming. It will also allow for Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto to make his first visit here.

A press release from the Government of Belize says that President Peña Nieto will have a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Dean Barrow, prior to the opening of the Summit. The two Heads of Government will evaluate the Belize's current bilateral relations with Mexico, and their discussion will focus on the strengthening of cooperation in the areas of education, sports, maritime security, and economic and political cooperation. They will also consider other ways to strengthen the legal framework between Belize and Mexico.

Thereafter, they will attend the Summit, which should focus on topics such as the CARICOM-Mexico programme of technical cooperation, infrastructural development in the region, which is funded through the Mesoamerica Project, Agriculture, and Investment. Also on the Summit's agenda is cooperation in the multilateral fora which spans mutual areas of concern like the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Non-Communicable diseases.

A government press release says that the relationship between Mexico and CARICOM dates back to July 30, 1974, when the CARICOM-Mexico Cooperation Agreement was signed. Mexico was the first country with which CARICOM developed a third country relationship. The last summit happened in Merida, Mexico in 2014.
