Home Invasion in Ranchito Leaves American Couple Rattled
posted (October 31, 2017)
A retired American couple in Ranchito Village, Corozal District are recovering after an early morning home invasion. Between 1:00 and 2:00 AM on Monday morning , 70 year old Michael and his wife Janet McGhee, woke up to find a pair of armed and masked men over their bed. They were professional thieves and by the time they were were finished - they had stolen everything of value that they could fit in the couple's pickup truck - including Janet's diamond wedding ring.

He told CTV-3 that they tied them up and threatened to kill them:..

Michael McGee, Held up in Home
"They ties us up, made us lay face down on the floor and that was not good for her neck because she recently had neck surgery, so she's been in some pain because of that. They told us that they wanted money or anything they could convert into money and at one point they told us they needed at least $5,000. We don't have $5,000. And they were just throwing the "f" bomb around like wild, but it just went on for two and a half hours, so there is a whole lot that I can tell you but I'm not sure what more there is to know, really."

"They had guns, 9mm semi-automatics. They were dressed in hoodies with black mask on their faces, longs sleeves, long pants. One of them was barefoot. They stole our truck. They took all of our TVs, computers, her diamond wedding ring and my wedding band - I mean they stole anything they could carry and anything they can put in the truck. So it's all gone now."

Wife
"And then after a while, I think half an hour - my wrist was so small that I was able to get my hands free and then pull off the duct tape over our mouth and duct tape over our eyes and stuff and I go 'Mike they are gone' and I helped him get free."

Michael McGee, Held up in Home
"They threatened to kill us several times. At one point one of them held their gun right in front of my nose and said 'if you make a sound I will kill you.' They threatened to kill us several times."

"These were not novices, these people knew what they were doing. They popped the lock on one of our doors and we heard nothing, not a sound. They were in the bedroom standing over us before we knew they were there."

Wife
"And what are the cops doing? They are not doing anything, really. These men should be caught."

No one has been detained. Corozal police say the men made off with an assortment of personal and house hold items valued at $16,785, and the couple's 2003 Dodge Pick-up valued at $29,800.00 all to a total value of $ 46,585.00 dollars. Police told the couple there have been a number of home invasions in the area. We note that none of these were reported to the media.
