PM Murky on BDF Case
posted (November 1, 2017)
For the past two nights we've been reporting on the irregularities unearthed in an audit of the BDF's Jungle Training Operations. A senior officer is under scrutiny for setting up a private company which offers logistical support to those jungle training units - while at the same time being tasked by the BDF to be in charge of those operations.

Today the Prime Minister told us he didn't know much about it:..

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow - Prime Minister
"I will speak to the Minister of Defence and the officials in the Ministry. Clearly there is a need for a thorough going investigation and I am positive that, I certainly will insist that no stone is left unturned to get to the bottom of this. It sounds and looks bad, but I guess final judgement must be suspended until the investigation is concluded, but investigation there will be."

"There is a suggestion that parallel enterprises were being run; one in the name of the government and one in the name of this private company. It must be sorted out."

The CEO in the Ministry of Defense told us that they asked the Auditor General to investigate after themselves becoming aware of the irregularities.
