Two 60-Something Tourists Drown in Separate Incidents In Stann Creek

Two elderly male tourists drowned in separate incidents in the Stann Creek District this weekend. Foul play is not suspected in either case.

The first body of 67 year old Paul Panarese was discovered early on Saturday morning on the beach at the Northside of Hopkins Village. Police say he had last been seen on Friday night. They also discussed the second case, 68 year old ROBERT LOTZ who was found on Saturday afternoon on the beach outside Placencia. Here's ASP Cowo with the details:

"There were 2 drownings over the weekend and a male person by the name of Mr. Paul Panarese, he was found floating at the beach side in Hopkins Village. He was socializing with a group of male persons when he decided to take a walk by the beach and that was the last time he was seen alive. The body was found the following day at the beach side. We have to wait for the postmortem. The body was checked and there were no signs of foul play up to now, but we need to determine what the postmortem will be saying. There are no injuries on the body."

"We have the one in Placencia, where a male person was found near Maya Beach area. Apparently he went kayaking the night before and he was found by the seashore motionless. Again, the body was checked and there were no physical violence or no injuries observed on the body. The person's name is Robert Lotz of Illinois USA address. Likewise he was visiting Belize was staying along with his wife."

According to reports Lotz was a guest at a resort near the north end of the peninsula. He left there in a kayak heading to false Caye. On the way he is believed to have either drowned or had a heart attack and body floated south. He was found a few miles south in the sea off another resort. Again, there were no signs of violence on the bodies of either man, and not are believed to have drowned.
