Talking About Lead-Her-Ship
posted (November 8, 2017)
The third annual women's leadership conference was held today. Actually, it's the "Lead-Her-Ship" Conference, part of the Women's Entrepreneurship Day Organization, which is called "a forum to celebrate, support and inspire women in business."

This year's event had the attendance of over 100 women, headlined by a superstar line up of successful female speakers from Belize and one special guest from Jamaica. We found out more from the organizer and spoke to one of the inspirational presenters.

Danalyn Myvett, President for Belize Center for Training and Development
"We are focused here today on women in business and the entire day will be spent looking at how do we focus on empowering women through business, how can we support them."

"We also look at brave, bold, and breaking boundaries and that is really fascinating because that takes a look at what industries did we have women sitting in leadership roles that have grown a business in the non-traditional spaces as we would know it in Belize."

Patria Kay Aarons, CEO of Sweetie
"As a region, I think we are so competitive within ourselves. Jamaica versus Trinidad, versus Belize but when you look at the map you realize just how small we are and how necessary it is for us to unite our power to succeed and so opportunities like this for us a region encourage each other are very important. The other thing coming out of sessions like this at a more nuclear is that this is a networking session not just to exchange business cards and say have a nice day and move on. It really is a starting point for developing real relationships, meaningful relationships where people can find other people in that room who can help their businesses but also who's businesses they can help so this is a great place to get like minds together and people who can help each other."

It was a one-day event.

Aarons founded the candy company Sweetie that continues to succeed by selling uniquely flavoured sweets. Rebecca Stirm, Kim Aikman and Ruth Esquivel were amongst the list of other presenters for the day.
