How to Catch A Thief: A Smooth Criminal In Slow Motion
posted (November 9, 2017)
Tonight, police still have not made any arrests in the armed robbery of a Western Union employee which happened on Monday morning in Corozal Town. Tonight, we have security video which shows a calculating criminal casual stepping in to walk off with a purse full of cash. Here's how it all went down:..

Jules Vasquez reporting
At 9:25 AM, 28 year old Doris Montejo, pulled up near the Western Union office on Second Street South in this GEO Prizm with others.

Just as the male driver parks and steps out of the car, keep an eye on the figure at the right edge of your frame, who is walking on the sidewalk - into the shaded area. He wears a cap, and appears to be just another pedestrian. Montejo pays him no mind as she gets out of the back door - even though she is about to pick up a purse with ten thousand, one hundred dollars in cash.

The figure in the shadow casually steps off the sidewalk - he's timed himself perfectly. And as she closes the door and turns - there he is, facing her. He holds what appears to be a firearm under his shirt and tells her, quote, "don't shout, hand over the money." It's a dire choice, and she does the only thing she can, she lets the purse go, and he takes it gently, apparently in no rush at all. After that he breaks into a light jog as he makes off with his loot.

Another women gets out and raises the alarm - where some men run after the robber to catch him - but too late, he's gone.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, CIB - Belize City
"Three persons have been detained, they have been dealt with by police and they were released because of the little information that we have received. But I know they have recovered one of the purse belonging to the female and a cell phone in a neighborhood where the suspect lives. But apparently we don't have anything direct to point that it was him that was involved."
