Kettle Bells Are Christmas Bells
posted (November 9, 2017)
We haven't entered December yet but the Christmas spirit has already arrived. And we know that because this morning you could hear those Salvation Army Bells, signifying that the charitable organization has launched its annual Kettle drive.

All those coppers in the kettles provides food and gifts to the less fortunate at Christmas. 7News was there this morning for the celebratory launch and we found out more about the importance of the red kettles.

Darrel Bradley, Mayor of Belize City
"It is a joyous event. I think that the Salvation Army has continually blessed our community. I spoke very briefly about their involvement in education, in community service, the work that they do with the homeless and they are really a community that lives on their word. They show on a daily basis that they are really committed to the empowerment of others."

Major Joliker Leandre, Regional Commander
"Our usual target is $100,000 but last year we came below that. We raised only $82,000 but whatever we raise the target is the same. We always have to cater to those that need help so we are hoping this year we can have a little increase to make up for what was lost last year but the response, in general, is good because everyone joins in."

"So whenever they see the kettle they know the Salvation Army is here and there are many families who are relying on the kindness in order to have a good Christmas so we are encouraging people to do so."

Elio Cabanas, Scotia Bank Marketing Manager
"Last year we launched our partnership with them to start the kettle drive for the year so this year we are happy to do it again. It is really part of an ongoing commitment we have with them so we definitely look forward to next year as well as future years to come."

Scotia Bank warmed up the kettles with a generous donation of $2,000 dollars. If you are interested in donating you can look for the red kettles at Brodies, Scotia Bank, Hofius, Angelus Press, Publics, and Save- U.
