Bucket’s Sentence Delayed
posted (November 10, 2017)
Police provided armed security at court today for 46 year old Glenford "Bucket" Bermudez. The convicted wife-killer pleaded down from murder to manslaughter 10 days ago, and he was supposed to be sentenced today. He was previously serving a life sentence.

But, seems someone still had that death sentence in mind, because the added security was on hand because there was reportedly a "hit" out on Bermudez.

But after all that buildup, the day ended in anticlimax because the sentencing did not take place as scheduled. Justice Adolph Lucas deferred it until Monday, November 13 so that both the Crown and the defense can make adequate representation on the range of sentencing to be passed, including deduction for any and time already served. Bermudez has been in jail for ten years.

On November 22, 2007, the ex-BDF soldier, shot and killed his wife - who was a taxi driver - with a shotgun blast to her head from close range.

He was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in April, 2011. He appealed and the Belize Court of Appeal ordered a retrial. Bermudez is being represented by attorney Oscar Selgado. The Crown is being represented by Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell.
