High School, High Culture
posted (November 15, 2017)

At this time of year, you can bet you will start to see Christmas lights, decorations and everything you need for the season in stock at every store. But before we get to loading up on the ham and turkey, there is an observance that always starts off the end of year festivities with a bang, and that is Garifuna Settlement Day on the 19th. This morning in that strong Garifuna cultural spirit, Wesley College had a celebration of their own:

Courtney Weatherburne

“You said it is pretty much a cultural day commemorating and celebrating the Garifuna culture?â€￾

Edison Ogaldez - Head of Department, Social Sciences

"Yes it is that and more, we respect the other cultures and so today we re-enacted the Yuremi, we just arrived and we are now going through the service. It is something that we try to do yearly and we have succeeded since we started.â€￾

Courtney Weatherburne

“Anything else will happen today throughout the week, any other activities or anything you guys have planned?â€￾

Edison Ogaldez

“For us we will continue to talk about cultural affairs today but also other subject areas. The Battle of the Drums team for Wesley College team will be going to two schools this week on invitation.â€￾

Wesley College’s battle of the drums team came in 3rd.
