UNICEF, Taking Stock
posted (November 22, 2017)
Today UNICEF held its annual end of year review at the Biltmore. It was an all-day event highlighting the work they have done for 2017. The main objective like any review is to evaluate the effectiveness of their programs and to see how they can improve next year. Here's more.

Susan Kasedde, UNICEF Country Rep.
"Today we are holding our annual review meeting with our partners. Every year of our country program, UNICEF intends to hold a consultative session with our partners in government, civil society, and the UN system and beyond to reflect on the commitments we made in support of children's health and development in Belize and the progress we have made towards those commitments and so today we will spend the entire day hearing some of the results that have been achieved in 3 areas: in child rights monitoring and reducing multidimensional poverty , in access to justice and safety and violence prevention and in the area of lifelong learning."

Hon. Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs
"Really the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the ministry that interfaces with the international community and the UN agencies and because of our own particular interests in the work of UNICEF in particular and the work it is doing with children I imagine I was asked to co-chair the session this morning."

"Children are our most important asset and they are entitled to be treated very specially but because of the limitations we have as country we don't have the necessary resources to ensure that there are given the kind of protection and the kind of developmental assistance that they need to get and what UNICEF is helping us to do is to involve a program whereby we can maximize the resources we have as well as that which they have to enhance the benefits that go to our country."

Representatives from health and education were also present.
