NDACC Has Its Doubts About Decriminalization
posted (November 24, 2017)
In last night's news, we had a cross section of perspectives on marijuana use, its decriminalization and the possibilities for legalizaiton.

But throughout the debate, we didn't head from the National Drug Abuse Control Council. That's the body charged with getting youths and adults to stop using, or minimize usage of tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and other harder drugs.

But, now that one more drug has been legalized what does the NDACC think. We asked the Director today:..

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"What then is your position as a professional on the decriminalization? You support it or do you oppose it?"

Esner Vellos - Director of NDACC
"The position of the National Drug Abuse Control Council, again, is based on the misuse if drug act. We are a long way in terms of being able to provide the services that are needed so that we would be able to have centers of care for rehabilitation and treatment facilities. As a matter of fact we only have 2 rehabilitation facilities, so our concern is that the effect that it might have in our society and we have to see what will be that result, because at the end of the day only scientific data will provide us what benefit or what negative benefits with decriminalizing of marijuana have. But at the end of the day the National Drug Abuse Control Council is poised to provide the young people and the general public with the information that is required so that they can make the right choices in life."
