No Arrests For Davis Murder, Sibling Briefly Detained
posted (November 27, 2017)
Police haven't made any arrests in Clinton Arthur Davis's murder. On Friday at noon, the 53 year old resident of mile 5 on the George Price Highway was found dead in a swampy area not far from his home - which is beside Old Belize. He had been missing since Tuesday - and his body was found in a state of advanced decomposition. Now, according to his wife and daughter, Davis had been embroiled in a bitter family dispute over land. Police say they are interviewing a number of suspects about this:..

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C. C.I.B. Belize City
"One was recently detained this morning and he is being questioned in regards to some information that we had received that might to lead to clarified what happened on that date."

"What happened Mr. Davis left on Tuesday and nobody had seen him until his body was found on Friday. It was almost 3 days that he had left his house and nobody knew his whereabouts and nobody reported of him missing until he was found on that date. So far as I mentioned, 3 persons had been detained, one was recently detained this morning and he is being questioned in regards to that alleged murder."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Have you all concluded that it is a homicide?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Yes it is. He had some injuries to the head and to the chest area."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"When I spoke to the mother and daughter they said that in fact the police had gone there on Tuesday night; the specialized unit had gone there Tuesday night on a report that someone had been thrown in the sea in that area; is that accurate that such a report was received?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Yes, information was received that there was a body somewhere by Old Belize. CIB personnel and specialized unit went to the area and made checks, however, no one was found in the area and by the time. We managed to call the person and spoke to him but we did not locate anybody there on that date."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Might this person have been witness to something or might they have been someone involved?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Well, the information we got was that he heard some argument there and so he called the police. That is all the information that the person provided."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"They said there has been a long family dispute about the property that he was on and other adjoining properties."

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Yes, it is something that we believe that it's a land dispute. One of the brother had made a complaint about 2 months ago. He was sent direct from the Lands Department to the Police Department so they can follow up - some kind of bad deals that Lands Department and we were following it up from there."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Is his brother a suspect?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Well, he was detained on Friday and he was questioned but he had to be released because we didn't have any direct evidence to link anything to him."

A father of four, Davis was a Real Estate Agent by profession. His family never made a missing persons report because they say they were told - they needed to wait 72 hours. Police today told us that a missing persons report can be made at any time - as soon as someone goes missing.
