PM Not Worried About Moving Goalposts on Guate Referendum
posted (November 29, 2017)
We also got a chance to ask the Prime Minister about the planned ICJ referendum in Guatemala. The date has been moved at least three times now and is now set for mid-April. Now, the uncertainty about this date - and the troubled history of this much delayed referendum - has some seasoned Guatemala watchers speculating that it could mean no referendum at all. Today the Prime Minister conceded that it is a fluid situation:...

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"I don't know how the postponement of the date of the referendum in Guatemala would have the effect that you raised. It strikes me that things are uncertain in Guatemala. We read the news every day. Things are very fluid and in that kind of a context, in that sort of an atmosphere, wouldn't surprise me if it turned out that there would be still yet another change."
