posted (November 29, 2017)
Saint Martin's De Porres School is home to a new hall with a brand new basketball court. The construction recently finished and the school community is now using the court for games and events. Today 7news was there to see the new court and find out more about its name and use.

Father Matthew Rule, Pastor Of St. Martin De Porres
"Well it is open to the school the church, the neighborhood, and the larger public. It is open to basketball, events, and whatever you can put into a building this size that is what it is open for."

"Everybody is enjoying it. The students, the neighborhood people, the big basketball player. Everybody enjoying it thank goodness."

"Carl Swift is a Belizean Jesuit. He worked as an educator in this City for 35 years and he was one of the members here at St. Martins De Porres so when we were looking for a name that was just a really obvious choice."

"We clean the court every evening and we do our very best to keep the place in tip-top shape. We want it to last a good long time and that is how that is going to happen."

Sahar Vasquez, reporter
"How did you get money for this place?"

Father Matthew Rule, Pastor Of St. Martin De Porres
"It was several donations from local business people to the parish itself and from primarily in St. Louis Missouri."

The hall took a little over a year to construct and cost $800,000 dollars.
