This evening there was drama on Dean Street as a mother tried to get her baby from police. This was the scene captured by Yaya Marin Coleman in front of the Dean Street sub-station. Police had a handcuff around one of the mother's hands who was protesting bitterly. She said that the police had her baby in their for an hour. Police were trying to put her in the vehicle but the mother resisted mightily.
It had the looks of a mismanaged situation as police were insisting that they could take away the baby - and put the mother in the police truck - which didn't work.
But, the official police side of the story is that officers detained a 17 year old minor for riding contrary to the flow of traffic and during the process officers were assaulted by an adult female.
