Competition Of The Coast Guard Warriors
posted (December 1, 2017)
And while those BDF soldiers in Dominica continue to put in back breaking work, for the last 4 days, officers from the Coast Guard and the BDF have been competing in a strenuous show of physical prowess.

They were competing in the 4th annual Coast Guard Best Warriors competition, an event designed to push the participants to their limit to see who are the toughest soldiers.

The competition came to a close today, and we stopped by to speak with one of the officiators about how it went:

Cmdr. Elton Bennett - Vice Commandant. Bz Coast Guard
"This year's coast guard best warrior competition was the highlight of our calendar and for this year. It started off on the 28 of November which is Coast Guards anniversary celebrating 12 years. We had the best warrior competition, 6 teams participating. We invited 2 teams from the BDF and that went well. We certainly appreciated the presence of the BDF, raised the level of the competition of the Coast Guard. So we covered 6 events and in the period of 4 days. All events being very physically demanding. As a matter of fact, we would like to label this competition as the most physical competition of its kind in Belize. At the end of the day the champions or the Coast Guard seals or the unit now renamed Coast Guard Special Operating Group."

"This is indeed a good measuring stick to see where the fighting forces are and we have push these men to the limit for the past 4 days and we have seen a slight reduction in time in terms of swimming time in terms of the sea sag unit. Keeping records and looking at the time that they did it this year as compared to previous years. This could be attributed to different reasons and could be sea state, could be the level of the competition, it could be that the record time that they placed 3 years ago was perhaps because they just came out of training and so we look at the different levels of events and we look at the competition and we are happy that we are at pretty much at the same level and was there differences in seconds and perhaps minutes in some cases and we think the level of fitness has maintain throughout the previous 4 years. They were instances where the team lost 10 points by just falling short by 3 seconds behind the following team. So for me the level of competition and the level the team balance across the board, that was the highlight for me."

After all the scores were tabulated, the winner was determined to be the Coast Guard Seals, which have since been renamed, The Coast Guard Special Operating Group. There were 6 teams who competed, 4 from the Coast Guard, and 2 from the BDF.
