On The First Day Of Christmas, Mayor Gave The Gift of Gab
posted (December 1, 2017)
So, while Courts was giving away those big bucks to Paul Ruiz, Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley was busy playing tour guide to a group of senior citizens living at the Sister Cecilia Home for the Elderly.

It's part of City Hall's 12 Days of Christmas, and their objective is to spread a little Christmas cheer in the run-up to the holidays.

We stopped by and saw tour guide Darrell Bradley in action. He told us that he enjoyed the company of the senior citizens:

Darrell Bradley - Mayor of Belize City
"This is part of our 12 days of Christmas. So, one of the things that the City Council did last year is that we created a program where that for 12 consecutive work days, starting the 1st going into 12 days we are going to have different acts of charity that the city council does or staff does for various members of our community. It's really to highlight the idea that we really can be a blessing to others within our community. We always talk about the city and the City is really not a physical City the city is actually the people. The idea with this is that if we want to change some of the problems within our community it starts with us. It starts with our ability to be of service to others, our ability to be compassionate and civil. It is something as basic as being, when you are driving, to drive properly or conscientiously. So that the idea with this, this is the second year that we've are doing it, is that on December 1st the office of the mayor really starts it off. And we've really appreciated the opportunity to be able to partner with Sister Cecilia's Home. We've been able to bring some of the older people who really have given a life of service to our community including our city. And just to show case them so that in the morning we started off with a tour of Belize City, so we went the entire length of Belize City. I gave them a personal tour of the city and I really just explained some of the changes that would have occurred in the City recently and now we are coming to BTL Park here and having snack entertainment and a turkey dinner for them and then we are going to take them back to Sister Cecilia's Home. So for the 12 days, each of the council's department have organized activities. Some of them include working with young people, some of them include going into schools, some of them are cleaning out areas so that the sanitation department is going to do a lot of that work. We are also going to look at light renovation to a few homes. So the activities that have been selected are really varied. Christmas and beyond, it's a time for us to be a blessing to others people."

The Mayor's tour is the launch of the Council's 12 days of Christmas. They have 11 more business days of charity work to complete before it comes to a close.
