And while that is the story of abuse in Cayo - in Belize City it's even more disturbing. A video posted on Facebook shows three members of the Special Assignment Team beating down a man who had already surrendered.
The video - captured from a security camera at an unknown address on the City's southside - shows a man in a white t-shirt coming out of his yard at 8:00 am on Sunday, apparently to meet the police who are coming for him. He raises his arms in surrender and turns his back to the police - but the police clotheslined him and threw him to the ground. Once on the ground, each of them proceeds to gratuitously stamp him - for no reason - other than to be brutal - since he is subdued and had already surrendered before that.
On the ground, they searched him - and then threw in a few more unnecessary kicks before they carried him away.
