Christmas Caring
posted (December 12, 2017)
Many of you are already getting your share or turkey dinner's way before Christmas but for many, their only warm meal for the season will be from St John's Soup kitchen. About 500 needy people gathered at the soup kitchen this afternoon for a plate of food and clothes.

Bishop Phillip Wright, Anglican Bishop
"This is an annual event but the soup kitchen is a weekly event where we of course try to serve a meal to some of the homeless and others we see around the parks and so at Christmas time we up it a bit and make it into what I will assure you is a delicious turkey dinner so that is what you are seeing there with the soup kitchen."

"Also as you will see they have added the clothes line which is the second of the Cathedrals outreach programs, it provides of course clothing, even some jackets there so in this cooler weather some would appreciate having these things."

"I will signal how significant it is because it not only helps individuals but in terms of the clothes line as we call that side of it we have seen where it has helped many families, single parents and those with several children sometimes finding it difficult to find clothes for the children to go to school so it's a very effective outreach program."

The Soup kitchen is a weekly initiative.
