Suspected Robber Shot In Front Of Monica’s Pawnshop
posted (December 14, 2017)
Tonight, Belize City police are guarding this man, who's name we cannot release as yet, while he is receiving medical treatment at the KHMH. It is believed that he and 3 others tried to rob Monica's Pawn Shop, which is located at the corner of Cemetery Road and Elston Kerr Street.

We've just managed to get in touch with relatives of Gilroy Usher Sr., who owns the business place. And here's what they told us about the incident.

At around 2:30 this afternoon, Usher's daughter and another employee were inside conducting normal business operations. Another of Usher's son's showed up to the pawnshop, and he was talking to the ladies when he saw 4 men approaching. One of them had on a hat and another a hood. We're told that Gilroy Usher son, became suspicious, figuring that they were attempting to rob the pawnshop. So, he stepped outside, and it is believed that this caused the would-be robbers to become unsure about what their next move should be.

So, they shifted focus from the pawnshop unto Usher's son, who left out the entrance. Thinking that he was a customer, the robbers then held him up with a firearm, and he willingly handed over his jewelry that he had on him. Before they could escape however, Usher's son pulled out his licensed weapon, and fired at the thieves, causing an exchange of gunfire.

One of the fleeing robbers was hit in the arm, and that gave Usher's son time to chase him down. He detained the injured man, seen here in this photo, and shortly afterwards a police patrol passed by. He explained what happened, and he handed the man over to police.

We're told that he was searched, and the cops found a butcher knife on him. He was taken to the KHMH, for medical treatment, and we are told that he is under police guard at this hour.
