posted (December 21, 2017)
The city has seen a total of four fires this month and last night another was added to the list. Four families that resided in a barracks home on #4 Flamboyant Street lost their house to a vicious blaze that destroyed everything. This morning we were able to speak to one of the victims who explained how the damage has put a damper on their Christmas.

Emmet Baptist, Fire Victim
"I lived in the first apartment right here. This is my house. Well to be exact we just heard it start from over the next side of the neighbor's house and it blazed right into my house."

Sahar Vasquez, reporter
"And today you got some goods how much will that help you guys right now? It will help. Anything we get right now we will accept because we need. Anything we get we will accept because we don't know how long because we have not gotten to check it out but we appreciate it. It will help us."

Sahar Vasquez
"Do you know how many people were affected by the fire?"

Emmet Baptist, Fire Victim
"Everybody was affected from the barracks and who wasn't affected got water damage. Everything is spoilt. Everyone got affected."

"It made an impact a cruel impact close to Christmas. Everyone was already preparing and ready. They lost everything."

Today, police said that it may have been caused by an electrical fault:...

ASP Alejandro Cowo, OC - CIB Belize City
"Apparently the fire began at apartment #5B of the complex. That was totally destroyed by fire and causing other damages to the other apartments. There was no loss of life and the value of the contents that were destroyed is not yet ascertain. The cause of the fire is still be investigated by the fire department, but it is believed that it was something electrical that caused the fire."
