Are Police Patrols In Violence-Plagued Antelope Making A Difference?
posted (January 2, 2018)
So, the area of Antelope Street extension has seen two murders in the last four days - and it has been an area of chronic gun violence for months now. This is despite the fact that there is a police mobile command centre along with frequent patrols in the area. So are the stepped up patrols really working? Well - in spite of the statistics - ASP Cowo said they are.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, OC, CIB Belize City
"It does raised an alarm for us. As we have mentioned, any life that is lost is too many for us. Yes, police are out there doing their specific jobs likewise, patrolling the areas and we know that it is a fact that sometimes the criminals are monitoring the police movements and those are the advantages that they take sometimes when the police are moving from one area to go to another location. They cannot be stationed at one specific only location. It's an area that they patrol within that immediate area, not only that Antelope Street. They have to go all around the little alleys and the other streets around Antelope Street."

The police presence in that area will continue.
