And hours after that killing on Iguana extension in the Antelope area, there was another city murder- the first for 2018 - again near an area with a fixed police presence. Leon Garcia was stabbed to death after 3:00 in the morning on New Year's Day. He and his friend were walking on Barrack road when two men pounced on them from behind. One of the men stabbed Garcia to the stomach and chest. Courtney Weatherburne has more from his mother who says it's his street life that finally caught up with him.

Judith Rocke is convinced that's what led to her son's killing. Leon Garcia was stabbed early New Year's Day on Barrack Road.

"Initial investigation reveals that earlier that morning, Leon Garcia was in the company of other friends walking from Barrack Road towards Victoria Street when they were attacked by a group of male persons. A fought ensued between them where he received the alleged stab wounds to his body."
Several attempts had been made on Garcia's life before. He was shot at on Victoria Street in December 2014 and on Barrack Road in January 2016. But Monday morning's stabbing was the fatal hit. Now nothing can be done to escape that reality.

"As I had said in various interviews it's the choices that you make in life. So whatever choice you make then you will have to stand the consequences. I have no grievances against anybody. I am not asking for any retaliation. Because if any retaliation should occur, that won't bring back Leon."
But regardless of his life or the circumstances surrounding his death - Rocke will only embrace the good she remembers of her son.

"He was a loving person. I could recall when I was ill, he took me to the bathroom, he bath me, he did everything that a girl would have done for her mother. He took care of me. He was a loving person in his own ways. Despite the criminal life that people see him as he was a loving person."

Garcia's friend, Raheem Reed who was with him at the time, was also stabbed as he tried to help Garcia. 3 persons have been detained.
