posted (January 4, 2018)
A woman is battling to stay alive after she was knocked down in Guinea Grass Village, Orange Walk. Last night around 9:00, 28 year old Shakira Villanueva was crossing the road at the entrance of the village when a 16 year old boy, who was driving a Izuzu pick-up truck without a license, knocked her down. Her mother spoke to CTV-3 today.

Lilia Villanueva, Mother
"When my daughter was going by the road, somebody hailed her. I don't know where she was going but the same time someone called me and said that a boy just knocked down my daughter and left her on the ground and left. Someone else came, picked her up and took her. They sent her right to Belize, and from there 3pm in the evening they called and told me they will operate on her brain because there was hemorrhage. From they operated her, she hasn't woken up yet. The boy is free; police doesn't have him or have him locked up. If the police cannot do justice, our family will make justice. The vehicle doesn't have any light and the boy doesn't have any license. That boy is supposed to be in jail because the windshield is broken from where he picked up my daughter. How will he not damage her brain?"

As you heard, Villanueva suffered massive head injuries. She was rushed to the NRH and later transported to the KHMH in a critical condition.
