We found out more about the island's second murder in one week.

One week after San Pedro's first murder of the year another one was added to the list yesterday.

After a long day of court hearings Paul Jex and his cousin, Deon Neal were walking on Crocodile Street - not far from the airstrip - when they were gunned down right here. Neal survived but Jex didn't - police processed the scene, covering his body on the ground in this tourist town.

The investigation has just begun but police are suspecting it is a case of A Belize City gang rivalry which has again played out on the island.

"So far the information the police have gathered is that both male persons were walking on Crocodile Street when they were approached by two persons armed with firearms. The two set to chase after them and fired several shots in their direction causing the fatal death of Mr Paul Jex and injuring Mr Dion Neal."

"I know that Mr. Jex was there attending court. He had a court date yesterday and so did Mr Neal was attending court for damage to property in Caye Caulker. That is where both of then met yesterday."

"Well we suspect that it is a rivalry between the two gangs there in San Pedro."

"He has been living in San Pedro for some time. He was in Belize City sometimes and then he moved to San Pedro travelling from Belize District to San Pedro."

While the police continue to investigate his family is left in a state of grief. His sister admits her brother wasn't perfect but he didn't deserve this death.

"Well you know he was a gang person. I am his sister but I don't know what he did out there. I did not get into his relationships out there."

"He is not a good person and he is not a bad person. He has bad records and he has had ups and downs with the law but despite the fact, he did not need to like that."

Back in 2010, Jex was accused of killing Aubrey Lopez but after four years on remand, he was acquitted.

The police continue to investigate this murder, and to contain any retaliations since Jex was affiliated with the George Street Gang.
