Ann-Marie’s Moved On From Those Many Slights
posted (January 25, 2018)

Last night on 7News we had our interview with Ann-Marie Williams who’s taken up a post at the CARICOM Secretariat as the Deputy Program Manager For Gender & Development.

It’s a major international posting in Guyana - but as she leaves Belize behind - for the time being - we wondered, does Ann - Marie still want to be a politician?

She’s offered herself in UDP conventions at least twice - and on both occasions she was unsuccessful - but there was also some political treachery in the mix.  We asked her if she still has that political hunger:..

Jules Vasquez
"Is the political fire still burning in you that maybe someday you would want to step back and reenter that ever appealing fray?"

Anne Marie Williams
"Put it like this I have an inextinguishable blaze, my fire burns and it burns bright but if you notice that I have put my energies to getting women involved and elected for politics, the women in politics project and so that fire was never for myself personally because if you achieve and its only you alone and you look back and there's no one there then you haven't done well and that's a message for all. And so had I gotten there I would have been bringing a number of women with me. I didn't get there but look at my handy work it continues undaunted."

Jules Vasquez
"I feel that just my observation, betrayed many times by people who should have been your allies but… how do you not harbor bitterness against those who fail to recognize that basic loyalty to you?"

Anne Marie Williams
"That's very easy I'm at peace with myself. I know who I am, I know where I stand and they feel worse than I do so it's always good to look at people who have to grapple with how they feel and you know that you have no remorse. So all those things are of the past, look where I am going. Had I been in politics I would never have sought out this journey”

Williams leaves for Guyana in the first week of February and is presently finishing up at the National Women's Commission.
