A Belize City man is in critical condition after he was shot in the face last night in the Lake Independence area of Belize City. Police told us that 33 year old Edgar Flores was hanging out with others when the shots rang out:...

"On Sunday the 28th of January, sometime just after 8:00 pm, acting upon information received, CIB precinct two visited the Karel Heusner Memorial Hospital where they observed a male person by the name of Edgar Flores with an apparent gunshot wound to the right side of his jaw. He was being treated and up to this moment is admitted in a critical condition at the KHMH. What police has gathered so far is that he was inside of a yard on Jones Street. They were socializing when a male person from the roadside fired several shots at their direction which caused the injuries to Mr. Flores."

"Was he the target?"

"Well, I can tell you that there was a group of male persons of known characters that I cannot tell you who was the intended target there at that moment."

"After the incident when scenes of crime technicians arrived, people in the area did not allow them to do their proper screening of the area."
ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Well I understand that yes, when the technicians and the police arrived there, there was hostility between the police and the family members trying to calm them down as to what they had just experience and there was a little problem with them dealing with the scene, but police were able to manage to do what they had to do last night."
A police report says Flores was shot to the right side of the face below the nose - and, again, he is critical.
