A Learning Experience At The School of Hard Knocks
posted (January 30, 2018)
In other positive policing news....Today 20 kids from Belmopan went on a special outing. It wasn't your average field trip though. These kids didn't go to the Belize Zoo or the Museum.

They went to visit the Belize Central Prison. As we first showed you a few months ago, the idea is to show these youngsters the hard life of deprivation and depredation that befalls those who break the law and get caught. Supt. Howell Gillett explained:

Voice of: Supt. Howell Gillett, O. C, Belmopan Police Station
"We want them to gain first-hand experience of what life is inside a prison. We know for a fact that young people don't go to the prison on visitation unless there is a family member inside. The next time they will be there and it is very sad if they become an inmate. So we have taken them and we are very hopeful that the interaction and speeches delivered will help to ward these young people from going to prison."

The trip was a collaboration between the Belize Central Prison and the Belmopan Police Formation.
