Maya Community Will Walk For Sisters
posted (February 1, 2018)

But even though the cops have been able to solve this heinous crime, the two Western Toledo communities of San Jose and San Antonio are still grieving the traumatic loss of the Oh sisters.

A group called “Walk for Justice”, formed in the memory of the sisters, has organized a walk to be held on this Saturday, February 3, 2018. A press release from the organizing committee says, quote, “The walk is intended to condemn crime, and appeal for justice, unity and peace in the Toledo District and the nation of Belize. This double murder has shocked the nation and has forced us to realize that we cannot be silent in the face of ever-increasing crime and insecurity.” End quote.

The Committee says that the peaceful march aims  to unite the people of Southern Belize and to send a message of unity throughout the country.

The Walk for Justice will start with a ceremony at the outskirts of San Jose village at 3 p.m., and it will be followed by a candlelight vigil at 4 p.m. at the San Antonio football field. It will finish with a series of short presentations from community leaders.  This comes one week after residents of Punta Gorda town held a protest against police for the death of Mario Vernon.
