PM Says Belize and US Are Friends
posted (February 1, 2018)

And, moving now from local to international politics - we asked the Prime Minister for reaction to US President Donald Trump’s remarks in his State of the Union Address. On Tuesday night, Trump asked the US Congress to, quote, “pass legislation to help ensure American foreign-assistance dollars always serve American interests, and only go to America's friends.”

Taken in context, he was referring to those nations which voted in the United Nations General Assembly, condemning the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Trump said the US must, quote, “restore clarity about our adversaries.”  Today, Prime Minister Barrow said that Belize is definitely not an adversary:

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow - Prime Minister
"I'm not particularly worried, I think we are friends with the United States and certainly it is a friendship that can and will survive that particular vote at the UN so it's not anything that I am especially concerned about.”
