Magistrate’s SUV Stolen, Torched
posted (February 5, 2018)
A family court magistrate's vehicle was stolen and set on fire this weekend. 34 year old Shanti Morrison's Ford Edge was seen on fire on Lake Independence Boulevard early on Sunday morning. The fire department responded to put it out at dawn, but, by that time, the vehicle had been completely destroyed - and it's still there this evening.

The Magistrate reported that it had been stolen sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning from in front of her home in Vista Del Mar.

It's a sensitive case because it involves a member of the judiciary - who vehicle was stolen and appears to have been deliberately torched. But, when police briefed the media this morning - at that time they had not identified the vehicle:

Alejandro Cowo, OC - CIB
"I know that on Saturday morning there was a vehicle on fire by Chetumal Bridge. This vehicle was reported missing by someone from Ladyville. We can't exactly tell you if it was the same vehicle because it does not have any license plate number and the VIN number. All the vehicle was completely destroyed and it is very difficult for us to track to see if it was the same vehicle reported by Ladyville stolen that it was involved in this fire."

The SUV was valued at $65,000.00 dollars, and was comprehensively insured. Police are looking for a high tech car thief, since we are told the vehicle has a push button ignition - which uses a SMART key - more sophisticated, and more secure than the older key - ignitions.

Morrison has been a Family Court Magistrate for 3 years.
