Ahmad Family Says No ‘Affair’ Between Fareed and Michelle Brown
posted (February 6, 2018)
Well known barber and community activist Fareed Ahmad was killed 40 days ago under mysterious circumstances. Police constable Michelle Brown - who was the passenger in his vehicle on the night of his death - has been charged for his murder.

But, that's far from the end of the story. There is a deeper tangle of uncertainty which centers around one question: how did the Constable get into his vehicle? Did she and Fareed have a relationship? It seems simple enough - but it's complicated by the fact that Michelle Brown was a member of the Special assignment Team - a unit that Fareed had made a complaint against hours before he was killed.

Jules Vasquez reporting
Today, the family said they have clarity: there was no relationship between the two. Jules Vasquez was at the press conference:

Today the family of Fareed Ahmad - his father, sister, brother - and, for the first time - his wife of 14 years - came forward to demand that police properly investigate his death.

Irma Dyer, Fareed's wife
"They had a scandal out that my husband was having an affair with the W. From those amount of years, one must say that I must know my husband or know something about him. One thing I know about my husband is that he takes a lot of pride in everything that he does. One thing I can say with utmost confidence is that that W comes nowhere close in what Fareed would look for if he had interest in that woman. She comes absolutely nowhere close to that."

Dyer says that she and her husband had just reunited:

Irma Dyer, Fareed's wife
"I had been out of the country studying for almost 3 and a half months. I just came back the mid of December. One can just imagine how happy we were reuniting after those number of months. To even think about something like that, as a matter of fact we were trying to make up for lost time. Right now I still have a bottle of red wine in my fridge because we were so enjoying each other. Fareed is an intelligent man. Why at this point in time at the peak where we are starting over fresh and enjoying each other. Why would he do something like that? It really doesn't make any sense. The night of the incident, my husband called me and we had a conversation for about 5 minutes. He was telling me that he made his report about the constant harassment. I told him 'okay, we'll talk about it when you come home'. He asked me if I had prepared anything, I told him 'yes'. So I was expecting my husband, he knew I was expecting him. Now, one would figure, why would he pick up a woman if he had intention to go with this woman, it really doesn't make any sense knowing that I am waiting on him, and his children are waiting on him."

The family says there was no phone or electronic contact between Fareed Ahmad and his killer, constable Michelle Brown:

Irma Dyer, Fareed's wife
"In terms of the BTL phone records, there is not even one shred of evidence indication that Fareed and this W had absolutely any communication. No text messages, no phone calls."

Dickey Bradley, Attorney
"As you know, the family compliant with the investigation request against my advice they turned over the telephone that belonged to Fareed and I was present when the equipment that is used to get into telephones was used in their presence. There is not a single telephone call either received or made within a long period. Not one day or two days, it went back for months, neither from the young lady's telephone or Fareed's telephone so it will be a strange relationship where at no time you'll say 'meet me at the alter in your white dress' or whatever it is."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Because WhatsApp calls or messages would not be within the domains of BTL. There is no BTL record of those."

Taheera Ahmad, Sister of Deceased
"We haven't seen any communications any at all."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"So you all saw his phone?"

Reporter
"No emails or any other form of electronic..."

And the family says there is also no evidence of any connection in a surveillance video police have unearthed:

Abdul Ahmad, Fareed's Brother
"The family viewed the video footage. In the video footage it did not show anything whereby a vehicle dropped this female off. It did not show Fareed's vehicle, it did not show Fareed nor the female, nor anyone being dropped off or picked up. On the family's part after reviewing it, you look at it and ask 'what is going on here, why are those individuals continuously pushing this narrative of Fareed and this female have something going on. Its just a lie in regards to making reference to that video footage that Fareed picked up this female. So one would ask now, what is that WPC in her uniform 4 hours after duty with a police issued firearm that should have been left at the police station inside Fareed's vehicle the same day Fareed made a report against her team. What is the motive for Fareed's death? What is the motive? this female and Fareed do not know each other. So why did she kill Fareed?"

According to his wife, Fareed Ahmad felt the police were hunting him - after he was roughed up by the SAT at a checkpoint days before his death:

Now, the family wants those same police to find answers for them:

Abdul Ahmad, Fareed's Brother
"The direction the investigation had been heading and up to this specific date, there are still more questions than answers and we want no stones to remain unturned in regards to this investigation."

Taheera Ahmad, Fareed's sister
"So we plead with the authorities, we plead with the ministers involved to do this case justice, do our country justice by investigating thoroughly into Fareed's incident."

The family says they will continue to pressure police for a true and just investigation. The possibility of bringing in an outside investigator is still being looked at - but there are financial considerations that would have to be hammered out with the government.

The Police position - as we understand it - is that at 10:57 on the night he died - Fareed's vehicle was seen on a surveillance video at the Faber's Road and Western Highway junction - stopping to pick up someone. They say that is the same time he called his wife - and she overheard him speaking in the background to someone about catching a ride with him. The police believe that person is Constable Michelle Brown.
