Labour And Capital Sit To Hammer Out OSH
posted (February 6, 2018)
The Occupational Safety and Health Bill was introduced in the House of Representatives almost four years ago - but it still hasn't been passed. And that's because the bill will bring sweeping changes to rules governing the workplace, and both employees and employers have to be on the same page.

A promising step has been taken in that direction with the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Trade Union Congress of Belize agreeing to form an Occupational Safety and Health working committee. According to a release, they will, quote, "review and arrive at a final position on the OSH Bill that is agreeable to all relevant stakeholders."

Their first meeting was held last week Thursday and both the Chamber President Nikita Usher and the NTUCB President Floyd Neal expressed optimism in the process. We note that no timeline has been given for this process.
