The Wisdom of 104 Years
posted (February 8, 2018)

Sunday, February 4th marked Mary Tate’s 104th birthday. Tate was born in 1914. She dedicated the majority of her life to raising her children and ensuring they got only the best.

Tate resides at Sister Cecilia's Home for the Elderly now. She is confined to a wheelchair but she does not let that break her spirit. At 104 Tate is still bursting with energy and endless good humour and grace.

We stopped by the home today to celebrate Tate’s incredible milestone.

Lorna Fisher - Grandaughter
"I could first remember when she came from Honduras when George Price first got his Independence. From ever since she lived in Belize all her life. She loved to dance and enjoy having fun with her grandchildren. We are everything to her. One thing with her is that she made sure we went to school. She put us through Holy Redeemer School and she made sure we got everything we wanted.  She is always happy as long as we are around her. She is still fun and she still loves to dance. Sometimes when I come to visit her she dances with me and I dance for her. She likes the fun."

Bernard Adolphus - Chairman of the Sister Cecilia Home
"She was born during World War 1 and she has been here for about 6 years. We have no problem with her. She is ok. We just look after her health. She is immobile. She can’t work independently but she is ok so far. Does not give us any kind of problem at all and that is important to us. She is very humorous.”

Tate is in good health and plans to continue on.
