CJ Benjamin, All But Gone According to Guyana Press
posted (February 9, 2018)
Belize's Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin is on the move - according to news reports out of Guyana. An online outlet called "Demerara Waves" says that Guyanese President David Granger will go ahead with the appointment of Benjamin to the post of Chancellor of the Judiciary. This, despite objections from Guyana's opposition leader.

The article quotes Minister of State Joseph Harmon saying that the President and the Opposition Leader have already had "meaningful consultation" and it, quote, "paves the way for the appointment of Justice Kenneth Benjamin as Chancellor…." End quote.

Because of the objection from the Leader of the Opposition, the article indicates that Benjamin may be appointed as Acting Chancellor.

Now, all this is being reported - while in Belize - Benjamin is still Chief Justice and has given no indication of any change, or planned change in his employment status. The Attorney General Mike Peyrefitte says that he has of course heard these reports, but at this time, Chief Justice Benjamin is the Chief Justice of Belize, and as far as the Government is officially aware, he will remain so.
