OCEANA Cleans Up The Shore
posted (February 9, 2018)
If you have time to spare tomorrow and you want to put yourself to good use, you can join OCEANA and its volunteer team on a cleanup. They will be picking up garbage along the Seashore drive area.

Over time, a lot of garbage has accumulated along the coast and they need your help to get all cleared out. Today we spoke to OCEANA's Outreach Program Director Jacinta Gomez about the initiative.

Jacinta Gomez, Outreach Program Director, OCEANA
"So tomorrow the Belize City Council and OCEANA are collaborating to spearhead a cleanup targeting the Seashore Drive area. OCEANA has done numerous cleanups in this area and anytime we do it we target smaller pieces of thrash like straws and different plastics that wash up on the coast. Tomorrow is a bit different because we are targeting larger pieces of trash that are actually in the water that if you just drive past you might not even see it but walking along the sidewalk if you look in you see big pieces of trash like tires, tiles different construction materials so the Belize city council has partnered with us they will be offering man power along with equipment for us to tackle those bigger trash items and dispose of them so we are inviting the community, we have a bunch of volunteers, the police cadets from SJCJC, SCA, Nazarene High School but we welcome anyone else that is interested, residents of that area of course to come out and join us."

"It is the love month so we want to promote love of self and of community and of the environment."

If you want to help, bring your rubber boots and meet the team at the Belize Sign in Buttonwood Bay at 8:00 tomorrow morning.
