BDF Driver Who Ran Over Child Is Fined, Not Confined

Last week we told you about the BDF civilian driver who pleaded guilty to knocking down and killing three year old, Jahston Terry in Belize City - while also injuring his 5 year old brother on December 4, 2013.

Hubert Martinez asked the court for mercy last week, and, today, Justice Marilyn Williams showed that when she spared him from a jail sentence.

She fined the 40 year old $2,500 dollars for negligently taking the life of Jahston Terry, and $6,000 for causing his death. The $2,500 will go to the Government of Belize; while the $6,000 will go to the family of the deceased. He was additional order to pay Jahston's older brother, Jaheem Terry $1,500 dollars for his injuries. That's a total fine of $10,000 fine which must be paid in full by August 8, 2018.

Martinez was represented by attorney, Bryan Neal.
