Today BELTRAIDE held a workshop focused on the business term "cluster". What exactly does it mean? Well, in a nutshell, it is when companies join forces and work together on different projects. The Manager of Beltraide explained it in greater detail today.

"What we are trying to do is also build the capacity of local business supporters and organizations to help firms to do more clusters in various industries. We have business support organizations from Fisheries, Cocoa, The Shrimp Association, and The Poultry association. The idea is that the different support organizations in Belize partner to support the industries and to have more initiatives where businesses and the private sector are working together for mutual benefit. Whether it is to export or to improve their productivity or to support joint training and certification the idea is to help the business support organization be in a better position to offer that support to the private sector. BELTRAIDE is one of those key organizations but we can't do it alone. We need to partner with other agencies."
"From the definition of cluster Belize has been clustering but we have not been doing it in a formal way. There are a lot of companies that come together and do things together. Sometimes it's marketing. Sometimes there is a company that might go out of Belize to market their product but would market other products from other companies."
