Fire Took Down Two Homes
posted (February 22, 2018)

Last night at around 7:50 a large fire took down two homes in Fredrick's Alley. The house where the fire started was unoccupied while the other house was occupied by a small family. They got out in time and no one was injured but a lot was lost.

We visited the scene today and found out the extent of the damage.

A cool night for residents on Fredericks Alley turned into a scorcher. A little before 8 pm a monstrous blaze broke out at a two-storey house on the street and it quickly spread to another house.

The fire department was able to extinguish the fire before it could spread to any other houses. But ultimately two people lost their homes.

The fire started at the home of Micheal Rosado but Rosado and his wife were not home, in fact, they were out of the country. A neighbor was watching the house for them.

Chadrick Tingling - Caretaker
"At the time when the fire started I wasn't there I was in the lane. I got a call from my girl that there was a fire. I ran over here and it was blazing."

Sahar Vasquez
"So you had visited the house yesterday and everything was fine?"

Chadrick Tingling
"Everything was fine. I live at the back and I can see everything clearly. Last night, I don't know something went wrong."

Tingling and his family were spared in the fire. They reside at the back but the fire did not reach them. Even though he did not lose anything he is still hurting for the Rosado's.

Chadrick Tingling
"Well, the only problem that we had was the smoke. My kids couldn't sleep because of the scent. The water that they were using to out the fire wet my house. I got some of my things damages as well. Yes. I had to throw the kids over the fence. Thankfully I am still alive. My, my wife, and my kids. I feel as if I lost too because they are nice people to me. It is a disaster for me to see and for my kids to witness something like this as well."

The fire department is still investigating what exactly caused the fire but now the investigation has gotten a lot more challenging. It seems the wires for the house were stolen.

Orin Smith - Station Officer, Fire Service
"However sometimes after firefighting activities during the night salvagers accessed the site and almost all electrical wires were removed so we could not determine whether it was electricity could have been a contributing factor."

Agatha Gonzales house was victim to the spread of the fire. At the time she was in the house with her kids and grandkids. They hoped and prayed the fire would not reach them but it did and it showed no mercy. Gonzalez lived in the house for over 40 years.

Her daughter who spent her childhood explained the devastation the family is feeling.

Voice of Nancy Garcia Daughter of Fire Victim
"This was her house for over 40 years. This is our childhood home. This is where we grew up. This is home for us. This is where we grew up. This is home for us. It is a difficult time because we recently lost my dad and so now all his memories and everything is gone."

Sahar Vasquez
"So you can't really salvage anything?"

Voice of Nancy Garcia
"No. Whatever we could have salvaged it has water damage. She lost everything."

Sahar Vasquez
"So your mom is struggling with it right now?"

Voice of Nancy Garcia
"Yes, she is. I mean this is all she knew."

The fire department continues to investigate. Neither of the houses was insured.
