Drug Plane Lands And Set On Fire In OW South
posted (February 26, 2018)
We met Williams in Dangriga - where he was investigating another death in police custody - and we'll tell you about that in our next segment.

But, first to news about another drug plane landing in Belize….This morning, Orange Walk Police were called out to the rural parts of Orange Walk South to an area between Indian Church and Hill Bank. That's because another aircraft was illegally landed in that part of the country.

Now, at this time, police can't say for sure if it was carrying any kind of illicit cargo, but they found completely destroyed by fire. Aviation experts tell us that it could be a twin turbo prop King Air 90 - that is an educated guess based on the very low resolution pictures.

Today, police were not able to share much details because the cops were still out in the field. Here's what the Head of the National Criminal Investigation's Branch had to say:

ACP Joseph Myvette - OC, NCIB
"Sometime this morning, an aircraft was discovered partially burnt somewhere between Indian Church and Hill Bank villages in the Orange Walk District. Police are now on the scene investigating that matter."

Reporter
"What is it that police suspect? Was it used for illicit activity, carrying drugs? Were any persons in the area? Did any person in the area heard an aircraft flying in that area?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"At this point, the investigation is in its very early stages. The police was acting on an information from someone and the police may just be on the ground at this point in time."

Reporter
"Sir is it believed to be that this aircraft was intentionally burnt or was destroyed while trying to make that illicit landing?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"No, I am not sure at this point in time as the officers, as I've mentioned before, may just be on the ground to commence their investigation."

We'll keep following up on this case.
