There was some concern in Mango Creek today when scores of banana farm workers didn't get paid. The workers are from the Tony Zabaneh farms known as Arnold and Sagitun. They were bussed in as usual to collect their end of month pay - but according to reports - the money wasn't there - and they had to be bussed back to their farms without pay.
Now, from our unofficial reports, it's not a matter of insolvency - but it may be a matter of missing funds. No police report has been made, but reports to us say that tens of thousands of dollars in cash may have gone missing from Zabaneh's home and business in Mango Creek. But because there was no forced entry - there are suggestions that it may have been an inside job. We understand that alternate arrangements are being made to pay the workers.
