If you live in a Belize Town or City, or if you just watch the evening - you'll know that elections are close. And, from what we've seen, in terms of presence and media placements, the PUP is holding up pretty well against the UDP - which - up until recently - had been known to have more to spend on campaigning.
The PUP's sudden, visible liquidity has led some to suggest that Belize's number one political financier Michael Ashcroft might be throwing some cheese in the PUP's direction.
Yesterday, the PUP Party Leader didn't outright say no when he was asked about it:

"Accused you and the UDP of being financed by Lord Ashcroft. Is that the case?"

"Lord Ashcroft has always been the boogieman. Whenever anything is going wrong - Lord Ashcroft, Lord Ashcroft. The reality is that not even their own UDP financiers don't want to continue to spend money on a sinking ship. We have been trying to get monies from all over the country, from big and small and as I said every little bit full basket. That's exactly what we are doing. We are stretching our monies and our campaign is not so much about money, but it's about hard work, it's about love, it's about commitment, it is about starting to make the case that we must change direction in this country."
