Cash Grab At Golden Bay
posted (March 1, 2018)

Last night we told you about a late evening attempted robbery at Golden Bay Department Store on Marine Parade.  It happened around 6:00 and the very preliminary information was that a shot was fired, but nothing was stolen and no one was hurt.

Turns out though, that it was a successful robbery - just that it didn't happen in the store.  It happened outside in the parking lot where one of the employees had just returned with her US dollar collections from the tourist village.  The robber had apparently been trailing her and knew when to pounce. Police told us more:…

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"A female person was robbed, she was inside of the golden bay compound about to exit her vehicle when a male person pushed her, grabbed the bag that she had with her. The female is a Miss Rong Cho a Chinese business woman. She informed the police she had been robbed of about 10 thousand dollars US in currency, that was the sales she had collected from the different stalls at the Tourism Village. Exiting from her vehicle a male person approached her and had a fight with her for the bag as a result she fought with the male person. The person pulled out a firearm and hit her on the head causing her to receive a small injury to the head. The male person then got hold of the bag, ran towards the Marine Parade and got inside of a vehicle and drove off. The area where the incident happened has no surveillance camera at all."

"So no security guards at that establishment?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"There are security guards but inside of the business establishment not on the compound."

There were no security cameras in the area where it happened.
