Faber Says Budget Won’t Be Severe With Cuts
posted (March 1, 2018)

Next week, when the elections are done, the Government will be presenting the budget for the new fiscal year. Now the timing of the presentation right after the election suggests that the government may have some bad news hidden away in the budget.  Today, Deputy Prime Minister Faber said there's nothing to be afraid of:

Hon. Patrick Faber - Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Education
"There is a special meeting of the cabinet scheduled for tomorrow morning Friday so that we are able to see the budget figures. I can only speak to you about what is my Ministry because I have been involved in creating the submission."

"Should we expect any issues such as cute to programs and that sort of thing?"

Hon. Patrick Faber
"Not that I know of or that will significantly impact us. Every year the Ministry of Education receives an increase in its budget and it will be no different this year. That is simply because we have to cover the increments for teachers so you will see that increase. Of course, we continue to do innovative programs. There are somethings we have decided we are going to make small changes in terms of our spending. We have indicated for instance that literacy is going to be a national priority. We are going to try and put money into that kind of initiative as well. You can expect changes but changes in the positive direction. Not anything that will be drastic to the extent that it will harm our education system we would never support that."

The budget will be presented on Friday, March 9th.
