95K Go To The Polls Tomorrow
posted (March 2, 2021)
Tomorrow, 94,890 eligible voters will go to the polls to select municipal leaders in Belize's 7 towns and 2 cities.

They will select from a total of 160 candidates nominated to fill 67 seats which go up for election tomorrow.

The UDP and the PUP each have 67 candidates, while there are 12 independents, as well as 10 BPP candidates in PG and Belize City, 3 BPF candidates in Dangriga, and 1 "U-U-P" candidate in Dangriga.

Currently, the UDP controls 41 of 67 seats and 6 of 9 municipalities - gained in the 2018 election.

But, coming off a sweeping landslide victory in November's elections, conventional wisdom and historical trends indicate that the PUP should sweep, or virtually sweep the elections. If they fail to win a super majority those 9 municipalities, it would be considered a disappointment and a telling one.

Later in the news you'll hear why the PUP believe they will live up to those expectations and why the UDP leader says they're in for a surprise.
